This is a small adventure game I've been working on for the past 10 weeks or so with the goal of learning how to make games using Godot!

Inspired by La-Mulana, L'Abbaye des Morts and ZX Spectrum games in general, you'll be exploring and learning the history of an abandoned observatory while collecting items to further your progress and solving some puzzles. Not nearly as cryptic as La-Mulana but keeping a notepad or screenshot tool at the ready is recommended.

Controls (has controller support)

  • Arrow Keys/WASD to move
  • Z/Space/J to jump
  • Enter/ESC to pause
  • Up to interact

Features 43 screens to explore and the odd sense of humor that you'd expect from a Spectrum game. Around 40-90 minutes long blind, and as little as 15 once mastered!

Gets challenging at times but is not very punishing, lives are infinite and checkpoint placement is fairly generous. If you're not a fan of the difficulty, or don't have much time to play or if you just want to break my game in half which is valid and quite fun, there's an invincibility toggle in the pause menu that you can turn on and off at any time. Was really wanting to put in more robust accessibility options but this project has already taken much much longer than I was expecting :/

Regardless, hope you enjoy this funny little experience!!

Note: Firefox has a tendency to run Godot HTML5 games poorly or not at all, use Google Chrome. Turning off Hardware Acceleration may also harm performance.

you should have everything to get through the dark rooms!

I really loved this game! Great artwork, music, lore, and challenge, especially the ending. What is the maximum money? I have $940, but I can't get the pink pig in the dark room. I even stood on a spot on the top left and heard the sound of a moving wall, but couldn't get the treasure. I resorted to invincibility but still can't get that one. I love the music too! Is there a place to get it? Great job! :)

thanks so much! the hard cap is at $999... but to be quite honest, i'm not actually sure if you can hit that lol

you do get different endings depending on your final gold count (<100 gives you a slightly worse ending, >850 gives the best outcome) but i DEFINITELY  wouldn't call it worth it to get them all, just there to add a bit of variation haha

@ the piggy bank, that spot on the top left opens a pathway to it next to the right screen exit

also unfortunately the soundtrack isn't uploaded anywhere like i thought it was, might need to go and do that sometime :|

$999 is indeed possible. :) The dark room with the piggy bank didn't open the first time I played despite making the noise of a moving wall. Something must have glitched. I collected it easily the second play through. I noticed the change to the purple killer-disks on the screen before the boss. Having one rotate instead of all up and down makes this a bit easier, though still a challenge. I also love the filter on the graphics which makes it look like an old CRT monitor! Wow, very retro! But, consider making it an option like invincibility to turn on or off. Cheers!

Quite a great time thx. 3 Moneys still sting in the mind to get somepoint.

Quite a great use of exploration & memory.

Precision platforming was great fun too :3

This is a really great game but it could use a save/resume feature. I got frustrated retrying the section with the appearing and disappearing platforms and ended up turning on invincibility (I didn't want to try again properly later and have to redo all the stuff leading up to that section again). I forgot to turn invincibility off afterwards and accidentally discovered the Easter egg!

really nice game but I sure tend to get stuck and currently I am at a loss.
hope you can help me. what I did:
have green key
activated mechanism
got the hate word

that's about it?
want the feather but to get it I need to go through the dark area which require the candle which requires the feather to get. or so it seems.

soemthing about fake spikes was said but didnt find any yet.
was in machine room few times and read all tablets everywhere but no idea where to go next.

help please? :-)

oh, check the tablet near the entrance to the water area, it gives a hint to get the candle

hope this helps!

oh great, the game didnt save sh...
guess that was that then

stuck in the same place. what do you mean with water area? ...ok I noticed the fallen. got the candle.

canyou elaborate. for if idecide to replay it from scratch.
the only watery place jsut tells me about a feather to get up to the lamp.

Show post...

there's a hard-to-notice skeleton in the background, circa above the lamp/candle.

however, I got frustrated and closed the game. I do not think I start from zero again. But the game is nice. IMO it lacks save and has too few checkpoints.

wait, jsut for the record:
the feather is in the machine area, you enter the machine area from the left. and going one screen up, you see the feather but cant get it since this seems to be the exit of it.

the candle thing however is bsically in the castle (the "observatory"),
down down, to where there are water pits . and in the left room, with water at the bottom again, the candle is high up, with no way to climb up there from where youa re standing.
is there secret passage or something?

and that skeleton, is that in the room above the candle room, do you jsut need to stand there at some spot?
also still trying to figure out how the "constellations will show me the way", the moon room is sus as f, but no standing around there has done anything.

so far, I have already played it twice, will do it a third time.
mainly, if you want to miss one point thing, you have to first get green key from left and everything after is in the castle on the right.
activate mechanism at top of castle.
not much to do to get back where i was

I adore both the art and music in this game (and the game part too now that I think about it!)

extremely inspired colour choice :)

Hello friend, I loved your adventure.
I'm a game developer for ZX Spectrum and MSX and I must say that your game oozes "Old School" all over the place.
I encourage you to port it to one of these old 8-Bit machines (most of the work is already done). In today's retro scene it would be very well received.

Congratulations and great work!!

thanks a ton! that idea does sound enticing, but i think i prefer working with higher level engines since i can focus more on the designing without worrying about the technical complications quite as much.

but considering i keep getting the urge to learn nes game development i may end up doing that someday...

Really enjoyed the game! A linux build would be nice though c:

i'll try to get one out soon! i just didnt have a linux machine as available to test as windows or mac and wasn't sure how many people would be getting the exe's lol
